What’s the different between white fused alumina and brown fused alumina?

White corundum and brown corundum are both commonly used abrasives in industrial production. Both contain AL2O3 in their chemical composition, which can be used for sandblasting, rust removal, grinding, polishing and making abrasive tools. As artificial corundum materials, what is the difference between white corundum and brown corundum?

The difference between white corundum and brown corundum:

1. Different production raw material processes

White corundum is made of alumina powder as raw material through high-temperature smelting, crushed and screened. Screened into different particle sizes. Brown corundum is made of bauxite and anthracite as raw materials, made at high temperature in an electric arc furnace, and crushed and screened by a self-grinding machine.

2. Different appearance indicators

The color of white corundum is pure white, and the color of brown corundum is mostly brown. Among them, the color of brown corundum will also be different due to the different production processes of brown corundum. The color of brown corundum from a fixed furnace is lighter. The hardness of white corundum is slightly higher than that of brown corundum. For the bulk density, white corundum and brown corundum are not much different, but there are some differences.

3. Different chemical composition. The AL2O3 content in the chemical composition of white corundum abrasive is higher than that of brown corundum abrasive.

4. Different specifications

The specifications of white corundum are: segment sand, grain sand, fine powder and micro powder. The specifications of brown corundum are: F sand, P sand, W micro powder, and segment sand and fine powder specially used for refractory materials. Brown corundum is more comprehensive in the selection of specifications.

5. Different uses

White corundum sand can be used for sandblasting operations where iron powder residue is strictly prohibited, micro powder is suitable for wet sandblasting and polishing operations, and brown corundum is used for basic sandblasting operations. To achieve polishing and grinding without affecting the color of the workpiece, white corundum fine powder or micro powder can be used. If it is used for functional fillers and road pavement construction, docks, warehouses, parking lots, industrial floors, etc., brown corundum should be used.

The above is the editor’s introduction to “What is the difference between white corundum and brown corundum?” I hope it can help you understand the difference between white corundum and brown corundum.
